TEMA: POSSESSIVE CASE (CASO POSESIVO)


En Inglés para indicar posesión se utiliza el caso Posesivo.
Éste consiste en agregar un apóstrofo (´) y una  “s” luego del sustantivo. Pero hay algunas variantes.


  1. “´s”  se usa con sustantivos en singular y plural que no terminen en “s”.
A man´s job
A child´s voice
The children´s room
The horse´s mouth
Men´s work
Women´s clothes


  1. Sólo un apóstrofo (´) es utilizado con sustantivos en plural que terminan en “s”:
A girls´school                                                                                   The students´hostel
The eagles´ nest                                                                            The Smiths´ car


  1. Nombres clásicos que terminan en “s”  habitualmente se agrega sólo el apóstrofo


Pythagoras´ Theorem                         Archimedes´ Law     Sophocles´plays


  1. Otros nombres que terminan en “s” pueden llevar  “´s” o sólo el apóstrofo:
Mr Jones´s ( o Mr Jones´ house)                                         Yeats´s (or Yeats´) poems.


  1. Con sustantivos compuestos la última palabra  lleva “´s”:
